You and I both know that art can transform a room. But can it also change your state of mind and spark your creative motivation as a college student?
According to recent scientific studies, yes. The simple act of looking at art can positively impact your mood and mental health.
That's one of the main goals of all the art we create at Montevideo: to inspire, alleviate anxiety and depression, and uplift the spaces where you live, work, & play in college.
Without further ado, here are our top seven wall art prints this month. Enjoy ya'll! 😘
1. Urban Jungle framed print
"It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under." Shout out to anyone old enough to remember these lyrics from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five 🤣🤣
Seriously though, making our way through our contemporary, screen-flashing, multi-device, hyperconnected world does feel like trudging through a jungle sometimes. One thing that helps is creating small oases of calm in our daily life.
That's exactly what our Urban Jungle framed print evokes: coming home to a space you've created for yourself that lets you recharge and nourish your mind and body.
2. Develop New Eyes framed print
Traveling is amazing and, potentially, transformative.
As the ever-wise Marcel Proust reminds us, however, traveling will not fundamentally make our problems disappear.
This quote from Proust, "Instead of seeking new landscapes, develop new eyes," reminds us that rather than running away from our problems and obstacles, we should develop the wisdom, courage, and resilience to find meaning in them.
Although easier said than done, limitless inner strength is the reward for developing new eyes that allow us to see challenges as opportunities.
3. Tribal Bear framed print
Nothing deep to say about this one.
I mean, c'mon, how adorable is this bear? Enough said 😍
4. Monet Redux framed print
Claude Monet is one of our favorite artists.
A few of our team had the opportunity more than a decade ago to serendipitously stumble upon Monet's Water Lilies exhibit while visiting Tokyo. We had no plans of going to the exhibit. We didn't even know it was showing.
After getting lost on the massive, overwhelming Tokyo subway system, we got off at the wrong stop, saw a sign for the exhibit in English, and decided to seize the moment.
To this day, walking through that Water Lilies exhibit in Tokyo remains one of the most powerful experiences of art we've ever had, and so we created this piece to honor the one, the only Claude Monet.
5. The Matriarchy Strikes Back framed print
The Matriarchy Strikes Back collection began as a collection of t-shirts, but last summer, we realized after hearing a lot of feedback from you that you also wanted these designs to hang on your walls.
For all of the designs in our The Matriarchy Strikes Back collection, our co-founders Nate and Nobuko went through old historical records from the British Library and found these colonial-era images of women whose voices had been silenced throughout history.
By repurposing these historical images of silenced, nameless women, we want them to live on as the stars of the artwork and apparel in this collection.
6. Dancing Through My Mind framed print
This print was originally created for Valentines Day, but we love it so much that we decided to keep it in our collection of framed prints beyond the holiday season.
This design brings to mind one of our favorite quotes by the late, great Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano:
"We are all mortal until the first kiss and the second glass of wine."
7. Think Lightly of Yourself framed print
Finally, this one speaks for itself: Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world.
But why is there a pug on this design, you ask?
Because what dog better embodies this delicate balance of thinking lightly of oneself while thinking deeply of the world than a pug? 🐾
Wanna just print these at home yourself?
Does your space at home feel incomplete and in need of a touch of life or a pop of color? Does it feel smaller than you'd like it to be?
These 7 prints will help you create spaces where you can relax and feel more at home. Having beautiful art surrounding you will help you embody Proust's wisdom of developing new eyes, which in turn will help increase your own sense of space.
You’ll enjoy dwelling more in the rooms where these prints hang. Added bonus: you'll impress your friends with your good taste and eye for art 👁️👁️
